In Wednesday’s editions, the Union-Tribune recognized 4,202 high school juniors and seniors as members of the All-Academic Team for maintaining a 3.0 or higher cumulative, weighted GPA while playing a CIF approved varsity sport.
Selection of the Captains, made by U-T staff, was based on academic and athletic achievement and overall leadership.

Emma Dudley, Santa Fe Christian
Last spring, she went on a mission to the Dominican Republic to help build a school and teach English in the sugar plantation villages. Dudley said the experience changed her life and made her realize how fortunate she is. The daughter of former NBA player Chris Dudley has earned an athletic scholarship to Utah State.
The All-San Diego Section pick is a brainiac, too. Dudley has a 4.43 GPA and plans to study biology and veterinary sciences and wants to become a veterinarian.
Among the courses that the National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation member is taking are AP literature and composition, AP government/economics, AP Spanish, physics and calculus. The senior’s favorite AP class is Spanish because of its real-life application.
