The SFC Golf team had a busy week this week with 3 away matches. The Eagles are finally getting their full team back together after a long run in the basketball playoffs kept several players away from the course for the first part of the season.
Monday saw the Eagles take on Cathedral Catholic at the Grand Del Mar. A tough tricky course and a really good Dons team meant the Eagles were in for a tough day, losing to CCHS 192-211. A windy day on the bluffs raised some scores, but SFC was led on the day by Sophomore Matt Almquist who posted a 1 over 37 earning him Medalist honors on the day, the low score in the match.
Tuesday the Eagles were back in Coastal League Play taking on La Jolla Country Day at Miramar Memorial Golf Course. SFC played well, but ran into a team that played their best match of the year. The Torrey's and the Eagle's were very evenly matched going into the competition, but the Torrey's played some really good golf, taking down SFC 192-215. Senior Nick Cable grinded out a 1 over par 38 (par 37) to Medal in the match with 3 LJCD players. This is the Eagles first loss in Coastal League in over a year. This years Coastal League will be a very tight race with 3 teams in the mix for a League Championship, SFC being one of those 3.
On Thursday, SFC traveled down to Riverwalk Golf Course to take on Francis Parker in another Coastal League clash, and brought out their best playing of the season. The Eagles ended the busy week with a win over Parker 198-233. Solid Rounds by Matt Almquist (even Par 36), Nick Cable (1 over 37), and Spencer Rydin (2 over 38) led the way. Ian Crosbie helped the team go low with 7 over 43 to bring home the victory. That takes the Coastal League record to 2-1 in a very competitive league.
