The Eagles Softball team moved to a 9 – 0 – 1 record following a win in a key league game against Tri-City Christian. The Eagles rallied with some late inning runs to pick up their nineth win of the season against a very good Tri-City team. The softball team remains undefeated as they head into a busy week of play with three games next week.
The team demonstrated it great depth with strong performances at the plate coming throughout the line-up. Olivia Anderson, Hannah Muscat, and Aspen Lee all went 2 for 3 on the day. Olivia Anderson continued her great start to the year with two triples driving in two runs. She also scored twice playing a key role four of the team’s six runs. Aspen Lee had two RBIs on the day including the game winner, driving in Kayla Emond who delivered a triple in the bottom of the sixth.
The Tri-City team opened the scoring in the top of the first as Ara Espejo drove in the first run for the visiting Eagles. SFC responded in the bottom of the first with two runs as Olivia Anderson delivered her first of two triples on the day scoring Maya Tyszkiewicz. Maddie Binnie drove in Anderson to give SFC a 2 -1 lead at the end of one.
Tri-City scored two more in the third when Kaeden Ybarra singled bringing home Erykah Juarez and Abby Lisak. SFC tied the score in the bottom of the fourth when Aspen Lee singled home Hannah Muscat picking up her first RBI of the day.
In the top of the fifth Tri-City scored two runs with the heart of their order delivering the key go ahead runs. The Tri-City 3,4,5, hitters, Ara Espejo, Abby Lisak, and Kaedyn Ybarra combined for 7 hits in the game.
In the bottom of the fifth SFC struck again as Olivia Anderson picked up her second triple of the game driving in Maya Tyszkiewicz. Maddie Binnie picked up her second RBI to get Anderson home tying the game at five.
The bottom of the SFC ordered delivered the winning run in the bottom of the sixth when Kayla Emond delivered a clutch one out triple to deep center field. Aspen Lee then drove in the winning run. Olivia Anderson who worked the last four innings picked up the win working out of a jam with two runners on base in the top of the seventh.
The Eagles played a solid game in the field with Bryn Henson making some great plays at short stop and Torin Bennett making two great catches in right field including a key grab for the last out of the game. Bennett and Anderson combined on the mound giving up eight hits and each picking up three strike outs to gain the win.
The Eagles next stop is in Carlsbad tomorrow morning as the team will be participating in the Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk to support efforts for finding a cure for MS. The team will be walking with, and in honor of, Liz Hallin who’s coaching and support of the team is tireless. Please join us in supporting this amazing organization as it assists people with MS.
On the field the Eagles have three games next week beginning with a home game against Bishop’s on Tuesday at 4 pm. The Eagles travel to La Jolla Country Day on Wednesday and close out the week back at home on Friday against Maranatha. Come out and support the team as they work to continue their winning ways.
