To say the Women’s Varsity Softball team is on a roll would be an understatement. Head Coach David Bennett and his coaching staff have a lot to be proud of as the Eagles won their 11th game of the year and remain undefeated this season with a record of 11 – 0 – 1. Now more than halfway through their season, the Eagles have had back-to-back shut outs, outscoring their opponents 24 to 0 this week. Today, the Eagles defeated the La Jolla Country Day Torries by a score of 14 to 0 with their largest run total of the season.
The Eagles were once again led by sensational pitching, today by Torin Bennett, who picked up her fourth win of the season. Bennett shut out the Torries allowing only two hits while striking out fifteen batters on the day. It was Bennett’s best outing of the season. She opened the game striking out eight of the first nine batters she faced setting the tone for the game. The Torries were not able to generate any offense in the game as Bennett controlled game from start to finish on the mound.
At the plate Maya Tyszkiewicz led the team with a three for four day. She reached base in every at bat and scored four runs for the Eagles today. Tyszkiewicz also had three stolen bases adding to her team leading 19 stolen bases this season. Olivia Anderson continued her strong season at the plate, going two for three and driving in five runs. Anderson picked up three of her RBIs by hitting a three-run homer in the fifth inning. It was her third home run of the season.
The Eagles got strong performances at the plate from a number of players. Maddie Binnie, Peyton McKenna, and Hannah Muscat all had two hit days. Ayari Lopez and Torin Bennett also both hit triples. In all the Eagles had six extra base hits in the game.
The Eagles return home for a league game on Friday against Maranatha at 3:30 pm. After that game, they head off for a key three game road trip next week as they work to stay atop the Coastal League standings. Let’s fill the Nest on Friday and support SFC’s hottest team this spring.
