SFC Boys Golf team kicked off their first big week of the season this week playing in 3 matches. The busy week kept the whole team involved, and saw the Eagles play all of San Diego County. Two non league matchups against top 15 competition started the week off, to be capped by the first Coastal League competition of the season. Individual play was up and down for the team, but they still were able to end the week with a two and one record, and made sure to start the Coastal League with a victory.
First up on the week was a match against La Costa Canyon at Fairbanks Ranch, in which the Eagles fell to the Mavericks 224 to 209. Was a windy day on the Valley course, and no one from the team really shined. One of the best things about Golf is that you get to play again, and a short memory was needed the very next day as the boys had to travel to La Jolla Country Club, one of the trickiest courses in San Diego County. LJCC is known for their complicated greens, and difficult approach shots. Was a good thing that the Eagles played better than the day before, as they were able to take down the Vikings of La Jolla High in a tight match 203-207. The round of the day went to Senior Luke Bailey, carding a one under par (-1) round of 34, earning medalist on the day. After a day off, the Eagles got into Coastal League play against Country Day, as they welcomed them to La Valle Coastal Club. SFC has had the Torrey's number in Golf, as their last lost to LJCD came in 2019. While the Torrey's played their best round of the year, the boys played well enough to win the Coastal League opener 200 to 205. No one on the Eagles had their best this day, but no one played poorly either, with solid rounds from the whole team. Sophomore Gavin Bostrom was the low score on the day with a two over par (+2) round of 35.
Sophomore Maddox Ott was the most consistant golfer on the week, carding rounds of 41, 40, and 39 to really be the reason that they came away from the week with 2 victories. Without his consistant play, SFC probably doesn't win any of their matches. Freshman Dax Labrum also kept the team in their matches all week by never having a bad day, and being scorer for the team all week. Next week the Eagles will get to host La Jolla High School and Canyon Crest Academy in more non League matches.
