This last week the SFC Lady Eagles had a busy 3 game home stand with back to back to back games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
They started on Tuesday night with festive Triple Header (JV Boys, Varsity Girls and then Varsity Boys). The girls put on a show with a 53 to 21 victory over Canyon Crest in front of the home court crowd. It was also Senior Night where Coco Wharry and Elise Taleon were honored at half time. Both players have been outstanding leaders this season helping the team to their current 14 & 14 record with playoff competition coming in both the Pacific League and the CIF Divisional Tournament.
On Wednesday, the Eagles took on Escondido Charter in the most exciting game of the season. Escondido jumped out to an 18 point lead but the Eagles, under the leadership of Coach Vickie Carrington, never panicked. The girls completely dominated the 3rd quarter out scoring Escondido by 16. The score went back and forth in the 4th quarter when the Eagles found themselves down by 2 with 6 seconds on the clock. Escondido came out of a timeout with possession of the ball from their own baseline. Senior Elise Taleon made the play of the night with a steal in the back court followed by a buzzer beater layup to force overtime. SFC took a quick lead the extra time but Escondido eventually prevailed winning 62 to 60.
Thursday night was another Triple Header with the girls facing top ranked Our Lady of Peace Pilots. Although the Eagles were outmatched against the bigger and more experienced Pilots they battled for all 4 quarters putting up 41points in the loss. Best stat of the night: Freshman Gianna Griffin shot 100% from the field going 2 for 2 with a short jumper and a beautiful long range 3 pointer.
The Lady Eagles are right back at it this coming week as they enter the Pacific League Playoffs. First round is Wednesday, February 8th at 6:00 as the Eagle head back out to Escondido Charter. These two teams know each other well and it should be another great competitive battle. Pacific League Playoffs continue through the weekend with the CIV Divisional Playoffs beginning the following week.
