Dominant Eagles’ Offense Claws Through Parker
On Friday night, our Santa Fe Christian Eagles won their home opener against Coastal League rival Francis Parker by a score of 56-14. The Eagles are now 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Coastal League.
The Eagles dominated the Lancers on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and the Eagles’ offensive and defensive lines imposed their will on the Lancers. Controlling the line of scrimmage has been a hallmark of the Eagles play thus far this season. Way to go lineman!
On offense, the Eagles racked up almost 600 yards of total offense, including almost 500 rushing yards. The Eagles scored on every possession except for one. The offensive line opened massive holes for Eagles’ running backs Cooper Whitton (136 yards, 3 touchdowns), Jackson Bush (79 yards, 1 touchdown), Luca Torti (62 yards), and sophomore Trevion Adcox (62 yards, including a 57-yard scamper, the longest run of the game for the Eagles).
The Eagles’ defense was dominant the entire game and only gave up 1 offensive touchdown. That touchdown came in the fourth quarter after the game was well in hand for the Eagles. The Lancers’ other touchdown came on a Francis Parker field goal attempt that Santa Fe Christian blocked, but the Lancers recovered the ball and ran it in for a touchdown to end the first half. Fluke play.
The defense gave up less than 195 yards of total offense and a large chunk of those yards came on a single pass play late in the 4th quarter when the game was already well in hand. Joey Olmore (6 tackles) and Dante Rotchford (7 tackles) led the defense. And Luca Torti and Evan Bennett added punishing defensive plays. Kevin Olah came up with another interception, his second of the season in just 3 games.
In the middle of the 3rd quarter, Coach Wallace took the opportunity to play a number of sophomores and freshman. Our young guys came up big. Andrew Hidy (Fr) took over for Thomas Greupner at quarterback to lead the offense. Trevion Adcox (So.) had 62 rushing yards, Duncan Nuckols (So.) had a 15-yard run for a touchdown and 4 solo tackles, Britain Kowalchek (So.) had a very nice 39-yard run, Nate Clifford (Fr.) got in the action with an 11-yard touchdown run and 3 tackles, including a tackle for a loss, and Will Marenghi (So) had 2 solo tackles. Also seeing action on defense and getting in on a few tackles were Freshman Ryan Rodrigue, Justin Hernandez and Tyler Massey. All of these young guns stepped up big and played exceedingly well. With this crew, as well as other freshman and sophomore players, the future of SFC football looks very bright indeed.
The “Talon Shoutouts” this week go to:
Cooper Whitton (136 rushing yard, 147 total yards, and a sack on defense)
Evan Bennet (blocking 2 Lancers at the same time and putting both on their backs)
Dante Rotchford (teaming leading 7 tackle and 3 tackles for a loss)
All the Freshman and Sophomore players (beating the Lancers 14-7 in the 4th quarter)
Next Friday (SEPT 10th) SFC plays rival Christian, AKA, “THE TEAM OUT EAST”. This will be a home game for SFC and played at Clairmont High School at 7:00pm. This is a very big game and will be the toughest test for the Eagles thus far in the young season. Please come out and cheer on the Eagles. GO EAGLES!
