The #6 seeded Santa Fe Christian Eagles hosted #7 seeded Scripps Ranch Falcons in the Semi-Final matchup for the CIF Division I playoffs on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons come into this game with a record of 9-9 after beating #2 seed Rancho Bernardo 12-7 in the quarterfinals. The Eagles come into the game with a record of 11-7 after dismantling #3 Saint Augustine 14-7 in the quarterfinals as well. Scripps scored first with 8:43 left in the first quarter. Both teams seemed to be playing at a slower pace on offense this quarter. The Eagles were able to answer with 3:29 left on a goal from Junior Will Littlejohn off an assist from Senior Garrett Lipscomb. Senior Grant Koopman had a great save at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles tried to capitalize with under 30 seconds left when Senior Evan Smith scooped up a ground ball and fed it to Junior Michael Linguadoca who ran the whole length of the field and fired a shot that almost slipped by the goalie. The 1st quarter ended with the both teams tied at 1.
The Eagles opened up the 2nd quarter running their set offense and slowed the game down. A huge save by Koopman kept Scripps from taking the lead. The Falcons came out of a timeout and seemed to catch the Eagles napping and added another goal.
The second half opened with Senior Grant Smith scoring off an assist from Will Littlejohn to tie the game at 2-2. The Falcons and the Eagles were matched very evenly even though the physicality of the game seemed to increase as the clocked ticked down in the 3rd quarter.
The 4th quarter started with both teams tied at 2 goals. The goalies for both teams have each made tremendous saves to keep their teams in it. The Eagles were able to take the lead with 9:24 left in the game off of a big rip by Freshman Jack Winters off an assist by Lipscomb. The Falcons tried to answer 30 seconds later but Koopman was able to make another great save. Senior Garrett Lipscomb switched to a long pole with 5 minutes left due to an injury to one of the SFC defenders. The Falcons tied the game at 3 a piece with 4:34 left. Garrett Lipscomb, back with the short stick, ripped a top shelf goal off an assist from Will Littlejohn. SFC leads 4-3. Scripps Ranch tied It back up with 2:50 left. A turnover by Scripps Ranch resulted in SFC being able to hold for the final shot. Unable to capitalize on the final shot attempts, the Eagles and Falcons travel into sudden death overtime. Both teams were able to hold on defense for the first attack. Unfortunately for the Eagles a big shot by Scripps Ranch found the back of the net and sends the Falcons to the Division I final.
