The SFC boys golf team kicked off their season in one of the craziest days that the program has ever seen. Teeing off in 30 mile per hour winds, with 40-50 mph gusts, the boys had a long day ahead of them. Playing Riverwalk in the canyons, the winds never let up, and the Eagles were in for a long day. It was the kick off to the season, against Coastal League opponents from Francis Parker.
But the boys were up for the challenge, and simply grinded their way to victory. The Eagles had 3 medalist on the day with three over par rounds of 39, which was a huge feat given the weather. Juniors Luke Bailey and Connor Melehan were up to their usual ways leading the team, and were joined by newcomer to the team, Freshman Gavin Bostrom all posted a +3 round. Senior Drew Bickley and another newcomer Freshman Maddox Ott were other counting scores, along with Freshman Hunter Coley.
The team score of 207 was enough to beat the Lancers who posted a score of 236. A very impressive team score given the conditions. Adding to the crazy weather, 6 holes into the round, the team was welcomed with about 15 minutes of hail. This is the first time the team has experienced a round involving hail.
Was a great start to the season, and the Eagles have a busy week ahead next week with 3 more matches.
