Our Girls Varsity Tennis team sent one fierce doubles duo to CIF individuals this week!!
Senior and Captain, Cami Stichler and sophomore Bella Raiszedeh went on full attack Tuesday! First round of 64 team draw they took out Martinez-Ponce from (Calexico) 6-0, 6-0!!
The next round was much tougher competition. We started really strong at dusk winning the first set, then after losing the first game of the second set and switching to better lighted courts; both teams raised their level of play. They split sets and SFC played one of the cleanest super match tie-breakers in tennis this year. Only making one unforced error and defeating Garcia-Gonzalez (OLP) 6-3, 4-6, (10-1)
On Wednesday they returned to play a seeded team #5-8. It was Round 3 (32 teams left with all the top seeds feeding in).
Bella and Cami had to adjust to more pace and very active net players. After losing the first set, they got up to a 2-0 lead and settled in. The other team took it to the next level by pounding hard at our net players. Cami and Bella held their ground really well but struggled to hold up to the pace. They were down 4-2 and came back to 4-3 and had chances to break serve at the end but couldn’t quite convert. They ended up losing to Agrawal-Bernhardt (Rancho Bernardo) 6-0, 6-3.
Cami and Bella competed well and deserve a round of applause for their dedicated effort!
