The Eagles Varsity Softball team bats came alive today as they faced league rival Foothills Christian. Both teams entered the game with undefeated records in a big Coastal League match-up. SFC posted an 11 to 1 win in a game that was called after 5 innings of play.
Foothills Christian struck first with a run in the bottom of the first on a Reese Winchester single that drove in a run. The hit and the run would be the only ones Torin Bennett would allow in the game. Bennett had a sensational game shutting down Foothill Christian with 9 strike outs and 1 walk in the game. Bennet is now 3 – 0 on the year.
Maya Tyszkiewicz led the way again with a 3 for 3 performance scoring two runs and driving in one. It was the second consecutive 3 for 3 performance for Tyszkiewicz who leads the team with .579 batting average and .600 on base percentage. Hannah Muscat had another great day going 2 for 2 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two more. Bryn Henson, Maddie Binnie, and Olivia Anderson all had two hits with Anderson hitting a two-run homer in the third inning.
After falling behind SFC got rolling in the second inning when Tyzskiewicz led off with a single and was moved to second on a perfect sacrifice bunt by Kayla Crecion. Hannah Muscat then singled to bring Tyszkiewicz home. In the third inning the team came alive. Bryn Henson started things out with a double and was quickly brought home when Olivia Anderson drove a home run over the left field wall (well beyond the 200-foot marker on the fence). Tyzskiewicz, Crecion, Muscat and Lee kept the hit parade going as SFC put six on the board. In the top of the fifth Muscat got on when she was hit by the pitch. Bryn Henson’s second hit of the day advanced Muscat who was then brought home on an Olivia Anderson single. Maddie Binnie then drove in Bryn Henson to close out the scoring for the Eagles.
The Eagles are now 5 – 0 – 1 on the season. This was the third game this season where the Eagles have scored 10 or more runs. They are back in action tomorrow when they travel to play at San Diego HS at 10 am. The Eagles are now 3 – 0 in Coastal League play. Come out and support the team!
