FACT: Varsity has lost only four games this season, by a combined 4 points.. Simple math, 1 point per game. All the losses have been to higher division schools.
Last week, SFC Women’s Water Polo team had a very busy schedule in the pool. The team competed in the San Diego East County Invite and played five tournament games picking up three wins. The team picked up wins against Oceanside, Hilltop and Mater Dei Catholic. The losses were to top-ranked Granite Hills and then in bracket play to Monte Vista. Both losses were tough games with the Eagles losing each game by a score of 6-5.
Between all the tournament action, the Eagles went up to Carlsbad to face a very tough San Dieguito Academy team. The Mustangs were a CIF finalist last year and has moved up a division and is one of the top CIF teams again this season. The Lady Eagles fell behind early and were down 7-3 at halftime. The team stayed tough and stormed back make it close but ran out of time losing by a score of 11-10. Freshman, Revere Schmidt had a great game scoring eight of the Eagles ten goals. Senior, Gisselle Fenby added the other two goals.
The Lady Eagles head into another busy week with league games against High Tech High on Tuesday and Our Lady of Peace on Wednesday. The team can clinch its first-ever San Diego City Conference Championship with wins in these two games. The team then starts to play on Thursday in the San Diego Open Tournament where it will face top teams from around the county.
