On Saturday, August 26th, the SFC Women's Varsity Tennis Team was invited to Steele Canyon High School in Jamul to participate in a non-league Tournament. Participating schools were the Steele Canyon Cougars and the Vista High School Panthers (Mater Dei High School withdrew the day of the Tournament). The Lady Eagles shut-out the Vista Panthers, taking all six matches! Senior Reagan Coyle (6-2), Sophomore Catherine Bailey (6-0) and Junior Kalia Schempp (6-0) defeated the Vista #1, #2 and #3 Singles players respectively . While our Doubles Teams continued the sweep with Freshman Abby Schneier and Freshman Breezy Frederick taking down the #1 Vista team at 6-2; Junior Olivia Grimstad and Junior Kayla Crecion pouncing on Vista #2 Doubles with a 6-1 win and Freshman Peyton McKenna and Freshman Emi Tedesco finalizing the hat-trick with a resounding 6-1 victory for the Eagles! To determine the Tournament winner, the Eagles stayed strong against the host team, the Steele Canyon Cougars. SIngles players Bailey (6-4) and Schempp (6-1) both struck fast with big wins for the Eagles. The Doubles teams of Frederick and Schneier scored their win at 6-3 and Junior Andrea Alessio together with Junior Olivia Grimstad sealed the Tournament victory with a 6-2 triumph!! GOLDEN EAGLE AWARD - It was an exciting, and very hot day, as the girls played strong in 90+ degree weather! Every player contributed to the overall victory and the Coaches bestowed the "Golden Eagle Award" to the duo of Junior Andrea Allessio and Junior Olivia Grimstad for their amazing play together! Congratulations Andrea and Olivia! About the "Golden Eagle Award" - Each match, Coach Chuck, Coach RIck and Coach Tricia will determine which player or players (for a doubles team) should be given the "Golden Eagle Award". The Award represents the athlete(s) who gave an outstanding effort and displayed an outstanding attitude for the match.
